My Color Obsession: The Naming of Color Joy Interiors

Brainstorming on my Color Joy Brand…

With my career background as a small business marketing consultant, I knew I needed to create a memorable brand for my interiors business that set me apart from others. In addition, I wanted to describe who I was as a designer so that my future clients could get to know my personality and design style. This was when color entered the picture.

A Colorful Home

When my husband and I first moved into our house in 2004, it was a new-construction house. So every room was painted the same shade of creamy white. During the first few years, we slowly painted every room a different color (don’t judge – it was the early 2000s). Then we began to tastefully furnish each room. At one point, we thought about all the colors in our downstairs and realized that it looked like a giant, pastel Easter basket!

We’ve made quite a few renovations and toned down all the wall colors since those early days as homeowners. And if you’ve been to my house recently, you’ll know right away that my favorite color is turquoise. That’s because you’ll see elements of that color all over my home in various furnishings and accessories. My office has a turquoise chair. My bedroom accent pillows are teal. So are my family room rug, curtains and pillows. I keep the foundations of each room neutral – shades of brown, cream or gray. But I always have colorful accents in all the room décor. My living room and entry are the most colorful – with a vibrant, multi-colored rug and throw pillows.

And this often changes with the seasons. I have never met a season or holiday for which I didn’t decorate. My favorites of course are Spring (Easter), Fall (Halloween / Thanksgiving) and Winter (Christmas). This allows me to add even more pops of color throughout my home. I just love it – can’t you tell?

Color Joy Around Me

My other joys in life are bright, colorful flowers (which you’ll find throughout my home’s outdoor garden). I also admire rainbows and gorgeous sunsets. In addition, I marvel at the colorful buds on trees in the Springtime, and the changing leaves in Fall.

So, in a round-about way, I realized that color in my home and surroundings helps bring happiness to my life. And when I stumbled upon the word combination of ‘Color Joy Interiors,’ I knew that was the name I must choose.

Claude Monet quote about color - joy obsession

My favorite painter, Claude Monet, once said: “Color is my daylong obsession, joy, and torment.” He was clearly inspired by color – so much so that he was often worried he would not capture all the colors the way he desired in his masterpieces of landscapes and the changing seasons. I have a different perspective on color: without it, the world would not be as lovely.  My hope is that you now understand my healthy obsession with all things colorful, why I named my business Color Joy Interiors, and that I can also inspire you to use color to bring some happy into your home.
